Storytime with Mandela Barnes and his mother LaJuan Barnes just in time for Mother’s Day! Take home a flower-themed craft and learn about kindness.

Welcome back to our Little Leaders Series! We’ve collaborated with Motherhood for Good to bring you this monthly workshop series focusing on raising the next generation of engaged and empowered humans. Each workshop will offer our little ones the chance to learn about all the different facets of being a good community member: inclusion, kindness, respect for each other and our planet, democracy, and speaking up for what's right.  📣

Our May workshop is centered around the question of how can we be kind? Focusing on ideas of kindness, respect, and love, we will explore all of the different ways we can show up for one another–whether in our communities, our friendships, or our families. Our special guest readers, Mandela Barnes and his mother, LaJuan Barnes will delight us with a story. 🌟

THE BASICS:

📅 Date & Time: May 11, 1:30-3pm

📍 Location: The Little Village Play Cafe, 6505 W. North Ave, Wauwatosa, WI 53213

What's Included:

  • storytime with Mandela Barnes and his mother LaJuan Barnes
  • a flower-themed craft
  • open play time
  • a book to take home
  • education about the importance of kindness

THE DETAILS:

🎨 CRAFT: April showers brought us May flowers (and sunshine!☀️), so it’s time to unleash your artistic and emotional creativity by making a kindness flower suncatcher! Each child will be provided with the materials to create their own flower suncatcher that can include a message or tribute to someone special. Hint hint: this could make an excellent bonus Mother’s Day gift.

📖 BRING HOME A BOOK: As a token of this memorable experience, each child will receive a copy of “How Can We Be Kind?” to take home. This book teaches us about how different animals show kindness and respect to one another while offering a glimpse into the lives of the animals that inhabit our natural world.

OUR PARTNER:

Motherhood for Good is a community of moms with a purpose-driven playbook. 💪 We believe that parenting includes politics and the more informed and engaged we are with our democratic society, the better advocates we can be for our children.

We use social media and relational organizing to share information and provide context on political news, legislation, and important elections that affect your life and community. ❤️ We organize in areas with key elections and provide fun and accessible ways to get involved.

Raising the next generation includes raising the standards and expectations of our elected officials to support progressive policies that allow all people to thrive.
